Standard music notation is plotted on five lines called the staff or stave.
The first symbol is the treble clef which indicates the pitch of each note on the staff.
The key signature tells you what key you are playing in. The example above could be the key of A major or Fminor as they both contain the same 3 sharp notes.
The time signature tells you about the rhythm of the piece of music . In this example there are 4 beats all worth a quarter note in a bar of music.
